ABOUT

Our Story

The Marino Duo, comprised of husband-and-wife Andrew and Jessica Marino, has enjoyed performing music for guitar and piano since 2020. Andrew and Jessica met while completing their undergraduate work at the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam.

Guitarist Andrew Marino has performed throughout the East coast and beyond including solo performances at The Walters Art Museum and Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Baltimore, and St. Paul’s Cathedral and Villa Maria College in Buffalo. Chamber music performances include the Sowebo Music and Arts Festival and the H.L. Mencken House in Baltimore, the International Day of Latin and Iberian Art Song, and the Classical Guitar Society of Upstate New York. Andrew has won prizes in Appalachian State University’s GuitarFest Competition, SUNY Potsdam’s Chamber Music Competition, and was a semi-finalist in the 2014 Philadelphia Classical Guitar Competition. He has performed in master classes for Benjamin Verdery, Johannes Möller, Stephen Aron, Stanley Yates, and Jason Vieaux. Andrew has been a guest lecturer at the Guitar Foundation of America’s International Convention and Competition, the New York State Music Teachers Association, and the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam on topics including the influence of Arabic music on guitar repertoire and cognitive learning strategies for effective guitar pedagogy.

Andrew has been on the Guitar Faculty at Hoff-Barthelson Music School in Scarsdale, NY since 2021. He previously served on the faculty of the International School of Music and Cockeysville Music Education Center, both in Maryland. Andrew also previously taught the Guitar Methods course at the Peabody Conservatory, as well as group and individual guitar lessons at the Henderson-Hopkins school through the Peabody Preparatory.

Andrew holds both a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Guitar Performance and Master of Music degree in Guitar Performance and Pedagogy from the Peabody Conservatory where he studied with renowned guitarist and pedagogue Julian Gray. He graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Music degree from SUNY Potsdam where he studied with Douglas Rubio. He holds an Advanced Graduate Certificate in College Teaching from SUNY Potsdam. Andrew began his guitar studies in his hometown of Buffalo, NY with Jeremy Sparks of the Buffalo Guitar Quartet.

Pianist and educator Jessica Marino holds a BM in Piano Performance with a concentration in Piano Pedagogy from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam. She received the Susan Smykia Edell ’57 Award for Excellence in Piano Accompanying and served as the accompanist for the Crane Opera Ensemble. For eight years she was the choral accompanist for the Port Chester School District and now regularly accompanies at the Greenwich Country Day School, Hoff-Barthelson Music School, as well as for the Stamford Chorale. She has collaborated with many choirs, instrumentalists, vocalists and opera companies, performing in the U.S., Austria, and Germany. Jessica recently performed Carmina Burana with the Canterbury Choral Society at the Church of the Heavenly Rest in New York City. She is currently on the piano faculty at the Greenwich Country Day School and teaches privately in the Westchester and Fairfield County areas.
